Alleys in Japan are very different than other countries. Alleys, called "Yokocho," ("side street") are not dark or scary, but fun places where you'll find some of the best local drinks and food in town! Sendai is well-known for its retro and more modern alleys hiding between towering buildings or just one street over from the shopping arcades. On this tour you’ll walk and hear the history of three alleys: Iroha Yokocho, Bunka Yokocho, and Tohoku's playground Kokubuncho, home to nearly 3,000 bars and restaurants!
Let's go bar hopping Sendai style! Standard bars serve typical drinks and are good places to chat with locals. Or we can look for something special, such as Japanese sake, local Nikka whisky, wine or cocktails. Of course you can buy some local Japanese or western food to enjoy with your drinks as well. I'll help you order and make recommendations, so let's enjoy eating, drinking, and good conversation together!
Meeting location is Sendai Station or your hotel lobby (if downtown). The program fee covers guide cost only. Food, drink, cover charge, etc. for your group and for the guide are to be paid by participants (it is best to prepare cash as not all locations accept credit card). The tour will end at Hirosedori subway station, near our last stop, Kokubuncho.
